Partnership Tax Returns Adelaide | Registered Agents
Partnership tax returns prepared alongside each partner's individual return, so the two agree. Distributions, losses, GST and BAS handled by Registered Tax Agents. Partnership returns start from $549.

Looking for a Partnership Tax Accountant in Adelaide?
Were you taxed on partnership profit you never actually took out of the business?
A partnership is the structure most people choose because it is cheap to start, and the one that surprises them most at tax time. The partnership itself pays no income tax. It lodges a return, works out net income or loss, and distributes that to the partners, who each pay tax on their share in their own return. That share is assessable whether or not the money was ever drawn. Partners regularly get an assessment for profit that is still sitting in the business account, and nobody warned them.
The Kalculators prepares partnership returns from three physical offices across metropolitan Adelaide. Blair Athol covers the inner north, Salisbury the northern suburbs, and Morphett Vale the south. We prepare the partnership return and every partner's individual return together, so the distribution reported by the partnership matches what each partner declares. Where the partnership made a loss, we work out each partner's share and how it can be used. Where partners have drawn unevenly across the year, we reconcile drawings against entitlements before anything is lodged. GST, BAS and bookkeeping are handled in the same engagement. Partnership returns start from $549, and the fee is quoted before work begins.
What Partnership Tax Services Do We Offer?
Our partnership services are delivered from our Adelaide offices and are available in person at Blair Athol, Salisbury, or Morphett Vale. Every return is prepared by a registered tax agent.
Partnership Tax Return
The annual partnership return, reporting income, deductions and the distribution of net income or loss to each partner. Prepared from reconciled accounts rather than a summary, because the distribution figure flows into everybody's personal return. From $549.
Partner Individual Returns
Each partner's own return is prepared alongside the partnership return, so the share declared matches the share distributed. Preparing them separately, or in different places, is how partners end up with mismatched assessments.
Partnership BAS and GST
Quarterly or monthly BAS for the partnership, and GST registration once turnover reaches $75,000. The partnership registers in its own right under its own ABN, not through the partners, which is a setup detail that new partnerships routinely get wrong.
Registration, TFN and ABN
A partnership has its own tax file number and must apply for its own ABN. We handle registrations for a new partnership and check that an existing one is set up to operate as it actually does. Partnership registration from $599.
Bookkeeping for Partnerships
Ongoing bookkeeping with drawings tracked against each partner's entitlement through the year, so the distribution at year end is a calculation rather than a reconstruction exercise.
Changing or Ending a Partnership
Adding a partner, removing one, or winding up the partnership changes the tax position for everyone involved. We work through it before the change happens, not after.

Does a Partnership Pay Tax in Australia?
No. A partnership does not pay income tax. It still has to lodge a partnership tax return for each income year, reporting its income, deductions, and how the net income or loss is distributed.
Tax is paid by the partners. Each partner includes their share of the net income in their own assessable income, and the ATO is explicit that they do this whether or not they actually receive their share. Where the partnership makes a loss, each partner may claim a deduction for their share. Capital gains work the same way, because each partner owns a proportion of each CGT asset.
That flow-through is the entire structure, which is why the partnership return and the partners' returns must be prepared together. Source: ATO, Business, partnership and trust income, checked 11 September 2026.

Partnership Tax Situations We Handle in Adelaide
Six situations account for most partnership work, and each carries a condition that generic small-business advice overlooks. Each is handled by the same registered tax agents.

Taxed on Profit You Did Not Draw
A partner is assessed on their share of net income, regardless of whether they received it. Money left in the business to fund next year still lands on this year's assessment, which is the single most common shock for a new partnership.

Partnership Losses
Where the partnership makes a loss, each partner may claim a deduction for their share. How useful that is depends on each partner's other income, which is another reason the returns belong together rather than apart.

Partners Get No Super Guarantee
Partners are responsible for their own superannuation. The partnership pays super for its employees, not for the partners, and drawings are not wages. Retirement savings are a decision each partner has to make deliberately.

CGT on Partnership Assets
Each partner owns a proportion of every CGT asset the partnership holds, so a sale is calculated partner-by-partner rather than once at the partnership level. This matters most when a partner leaves or the business is sold.

GST Registration at $75,000
The partnership registers for GST in its own right once its GST turnover reaches $75,000, and must do so within 21 days of reaching that threshold. Growing partnerships cross the threshold partway through a year and find out late, resulting in a backdated liability.

Adding or Removing a Partner
A change in the partners can end the existing partnership for tax purposes and start a new one. The consequences reach the TFN, the ABN, the GST registration and everybody's CGT position, so it is worth planning before it happens.
