Business Insurance in Adelaide, Reviewed by Your Accountant
Public liability, professional indemnity, commercial vehicle and workers' compensation, checked against how your business actually runs and how it is taxed. We review your risks, help you get the right cover and make sure every premium is claimed correctly.

Does Your Business Insurance Still Match Your Business?
Most small businesses buy insurance once and renew it every year without looking again. Meanwhile, the business changes. You hire staff, buy a van, sign a contract with a liability clause or move into a trust structure, and the old policy no longer fits.
Your accountant sees those changes first. At The Kalculators, we review your business insurance during your annual review: what you pay for, which entity pays it, what your contracts require, and where the gaps are. When your cover needs to change, we help you put the right policies in place before the gap turns into a claim.
One team looks after your insurance, your tax and your structure, so nothing falls between separate advisers.
Business Insurance for Adelaide Businesses and Industries
Each business type carries a different set of risks. Here is what we look at for the 6 client groups we work with most.
Small Business Insurance
Small businesses carry the same liability exposure as large companies without the cash reserves to absorb a claim. We check your cover against your turnover, assets and contracts before renewal.
Sole Trader Insurance
A sole trader has no company between personal assets and a claim. We look at public liability, professional indemnity, and income protection held outside super, which are tax-deductible.
Professional Indemnity Insurance
Consultants, designers, IT contractors, and allied health providers face claims when a client loses money due to their advice. We check whether your contracts require a minimum limit and whether your cover meets it.
Construction & Trades Insurance
Builders and trades need public liability, contract works, and tool cover, and many head contractors ask for a certificate of currency before work starts. We line these up with your TPAR reporting and job costing.
Commercial Vehicle Insurance
A personal car policy may not cover business use. We check who owns the vehicle, how it is used and how the premium is claimed, whether in your name, your company or a trust.
Public Liability Insurance
Public liability is the policy clients, councils, and landlords most often ask for. Common limits are $5 million, $10 million and $20 million. We confirm what your leases and contracts require.
What Our Clients Say (Real Adelaide Stories)
What Does Business Insurance Cover?
Business insurance is a group of separate policies, each covering a different risk. The 7 most common types of business insurance in Australia are:
- Public liability insurance: injury or property damage your business causes to a third party
![icon]()
- Professional indemnity insurance: a client's financial loss caused by your advice or services
![icon]()
- Business interruption insurance: lost income while the business cannot trade after an insured event, such as fire or storm
![icon]()
- Commercial vehicle insurance: cars, utes, vans and trucks used for business
![icon]()
- Workers’ compensation: compulsory for most South Australian employers through ReturnToWorkSA
![icon]()
- Management liability insurance: claims against directors and officers over management decisions, employment practices and statutory duties
![icon]()
- Cyber insurance: data breaches, ransomware and the recovery costs that follow
![icon]()
Not every business needs every policy. We help you work out the combination that fits your risks, then make sure it matches your structure and is claimed correctly.

Is Business Insurance Tax Deductible?
Yes. According to the ATO, insurance premiums paid to protect your business income are generally deductible in the year you pay them. How much you save depends on getting 4 details right:
- The right entity claims the premium. A policy paid by you personally but covering your company's risk, is claimed in the wrong place.
![icon]()
- Income protection is held outside super. Premiums for cover that replaces lost income are deductible to you personally; premiums paid through super are not.
![icon]()
- Prepaid premiums are timed. Small business entities can generally deduct a 12-month premium paid before 30 June in that year.
![icon]()
- GST credits are claimed on the premium only. State stamp duty on the policy carries no GST credit.

Claim payouts matter too. A business interruption payout replaces lost income, so it is assessable income in the year you receive it. We plan for that before the money arrives.

Office LocationsHow Our Insurance Review Works
Our insurance review takes 4 steps:
- Review. We list every policy you hold, what it costs, which entity pays it and when it renews.
![icon]()
- Check. We compare your cover against your contracts, leases, staff, vehicles and structure, and note the gaps.
![icon]()
- Cover. Where you are under-insured or paying for cover you do not need, we help you put the right policies in place.
![icon]()
- Record. We make sure premiums are recorded in the right entity, claimed at tax time and reviewed again at your next annual meeting.
![icon]()
This works best alongside our business advisory and bookkeeping services, where we already see your contracts and cash flow.
