Working Holiday Tax Returns Adelaide | 417 and 462
Tax returns for 417 and 462 visa holders, starting from $79. We check that your employer was registered, test whether your country lets you be taxed as a resident, and claim your super when you leave.

Looking for a Working Holiday Tax Accountant?
Were you taxed 15% from your first dollar, or 30%, and do you know why?
Working holiday makers are taxed under their own schedule, and almost nothing about it matches what an Australian colleague experiences. There is no tax-free threshold. Tax starts at 15 cents on the first dollar. If an employer has never registered as a working holiday maker employer, the rate jumps to foreign resident rates starting at 30%. And for eight nationalities, there is an exception that can undo all of it, which most backpackers have never heard of and most preparers never check. Each of those three things changes the refund, and only one of them is visible on a payslip.
The Kalculators handles the whole sequence from three physical offices across metropolitan Adelaide. Blair Athol covers the inner north, Salisbury the northern suburbs, and Morphett Vale the south, and the work can be completed after you have left the country. We reconcile every employer against what was actually withheld, check whether any of them failed to register and over-withheld at 30%, test whether you qualify to be taxed at resident rates under a non-discrimination article, and amend earlier years where you were taxed at the wrong rate. When you leave, we also claim your superannuation. Returns start from $79, amendments from $150, and the fee is quoted before work begins.
What Our Working Holiday Tax Service Includes
Our working holiday services are prepared from our Adelaide offices and work just as well once you have left Australia. Every return is prepared by a registered tax agent.
Working Holiday Tax Return
Your return is prepared under the working holiday maker schedule, with every employer reconciled and every allowable deduction tested. Most backpackers work for four or five employers in a year, and the withholding rarely lines up across all of them.
Unregistered Employer Check
An employer who has never registered as a working holiday maker employer must withhold at the foreign resident rate of 30%, instead of 15%. Nothing on your payslip says which one you had. We check every employer you worked for, and the difference is reflected on your return.
NDA Country Amendments
Eight nationalities can be taxed at resident rates instead of working holiday rates, which restores the $18,200 tax-free threshold and can be worth thousands of dollars. We test whether it applies to you, and amend earlier years where it does, and the time limits still allow it.
Super Refund on Departure
When you leave your superannuation permanently, it can be claimed as a departing Australia superannuation payment. We prepare the claim alongside your final return so both are finished before you fly, and trace any funds you have lost track of along the way.
Second and Third Visas
Regional or specified work for a second or third visa usually means new employers, new funds and a longer stay. We keep the whole record straight across every year you are here.
Late and Multi-Year Returns
Left Australia without lodging? We prepare overdue returns confidentially, lodge them together, and deal with the ATO directly on your behalf from wherever you are now.

How Much Tax Do Working Holiday Makers Pay?
A working holiday maker holds a subclass 417 or 462 visa and is taxed under its own schedule. There is no tax-free threshold in it, so tax applies from the very first dollar you earn.
For 2025-26, the rate is 15 cents in the dollar on the first $45,000. Above that, it is $6,750 plus 30 cents for each dollar over $45,000, then $33,750 plus 37 cents over $135,000, and $54,100 plus 45 cents over $190,000. Those rates only apply where your employer is registered as a working holiday maker employer. An unregistered employer must withhold at foreign resident rates starting at 30%.
The ATO had not published a 2026-27 working holiday maker rate table as at 11 September 2026. Source: ATO, Tax rates for working holiday makers and Working holiday makers, both checked 11 September 2026.

Working Holiday Tax Situations We Handle in Adelaide
Six situations determine most working holiday returns, and each carries a condition that cheap lodgement services overlook. Each is handled by the same registered tax agents.

The NDA Country Exception
Working holiday makers from Chile, Finland, Germany, Israel, Japan, Norway, Turkey or the United Kingdom who are also Australian residents for tax purposes are taxed at resident rates, not working holiday rates. That restores the $18,200 tax-free threshold.

Unregistered Employers
Employers who never registered must withhold at the foreign resident rate of 30%, not 15%. Backpackers rarely notice, because a payslip does not say whether the employer is registered. We check it against every employer you worked for that year.

Amending Earlier Years
If the NDA position applies and you have already lodged, you can amend within two years for Australian-only income, or four years where foreign income is involved. Past those limits, an objection is still possible. Amendments start from $150.

Do You Need To Lodge?
You do not have to lodge if all your income was salary and wages earned as a working holiday maker and your taxable income stayed under $45,001. Lodging anyway is often still worth it because deductions and over-withholding only come back through a return.

Your Super on Departure
Leaving permanently releases your superannuation as a departing Australia superannuation payment. The working holiday maker rate on the taxable component is 65%, compared with 35% for everyone else, so the figure is lower than people expect.

Multiple Employers and Funds
A season of farm work, a summer in hospitality and a few weeks of labour hire means four or five employers, several super accounts and withholding that rarely reconciles. We put the whole year back together before lodging.
